Terms of sale and use
Last updated: 28 September 2026.
These terms apply when you buy or use the Artisanist crochet course, Membership and community. Please read them before you buy. Our refunds and cancellation page and our privacy notice are part of them.
1. About us and these terms
Artisanist is run by Varvara Shcherbakova, a sole trader (Empresário em Nome Individual) at Rua de Sant'Ana à Lapa 112 2E, 1200-800 Lisboa, Portugal, tax number (NIF) 316857718. You can reach us at collective@artisanist.org or by phone on +351 930 513 545 (Chamada para rede móvel nacional: a call to a Portuguese mobile number).
You must be 18 or older to buy and to join the community. These terms are available in English and Portuguese; the course and our support are in English. You can save or print this page; we also send you the key details by email after your purchase.
2. What you buy
The Base Course is a beginner crochet course on the Artisanist platform: pre-recorded video lessons and downloadable PDFs, with five projects. Four projects are available now. The fifth, the Lace Cardigan, is in production and will be added to your course access when released, whether or not your Membership is active. Your access to the Base Course doesn’t expire (see what “lifetime” means).
Artisanist Membership gives you the private Membership area and its new materials (around eight releases a year are planned, such as projects, video guides, downloadable patterns, charts and reference guides), our private community on Discord, and lesson support from our team, who usually answer questions about Artisanist lessons and projects within a day. Your first 3 months of Membership are included with the Base Course.
To use the course you need an internet connection and a current web browser. To join the community you need a Discord account, which is subject to Discord’s own terms.
3. Prices, tax and payment
The Base Course costs €109 for the first 100 students and €159 after that, including your first 3 months of Membership. Membership then continues at €36 every 3 months, or €97 a year if you switch to yearly. Prices include applicable VAT or sales tax, and you’ll see and pay in your local currency where available. The total you pay is shown at checkout before you confirm.
Payment is handled by Link, a Stripe company, which sells on our behalf as merchant of record (“Sold through Link”). Link takes your payment, handles tax and sends your receipts and invoices. Link’s terms and privacy policy apply to the payment. We remain responsible for the course, Membership and community you receive. You can pay by card and the other methods shown at checkout.
Your contract with us starts when your payment is confirmed. We then give you access straight away and email you the details, with a link to set your password.
4. Membership renewal and cancellation
After your included 3 months, Membership renews automatically every 3 months at €36 until you cancel. You can switch to yearly (€97 a year) at any time before a renewal. The renewal is charged to your saved payment method. We’ll email you about a month before your included 3 months end, and remind you by email before each renewal.
You can cancel at any time before a renewal, in your account on the Membership page, in your Link account or by email. Your Membership stays active until the end of the period you’ve paid for and then ends. Your Base Course remains yours. If a renewal payment fails, Membership stays active for 7 days while the payment is retried, then pauses until it succeeds. Details are on the refunds and cancellation page.
If we ever change the Membership price, we’ll tell you by email at least 30 days before it applies to you, and you can cancel before then.
5. Money-back guarantee and your right to withdraw
You can get a full refund within 14 days of your purchase, even after you have started the course, without giving a reason. This guarantee is in addition to your legal rights, which it doesn’t affect, including your right to withdraw from an online contract within 14 days. How to ask, what happens and the withdrawal form are on the refunds and cancellation page.
6. Your account
Your account is personal: please don’t share your sign-in details or let others use your access. Keep your password safe and tell us if you think someone else has used your account. You’re responsible for activity in your account unless it happened without your fault.
7. Using the course materials
We give you a personal, non-transferable right to watch the lessons and use the PDFs, patterns and other materials for your own learning and making.
- You may sell finished items you make yourself.
- You may not copy, share, publish, resell or distribute the course videos, PDFs, patterns or teaching materials, record or download the videos, or use them to teach others commercially.
All course content belongs to Artisanist and its creators.
8. The community
Our Discord community works because it’s kind and safe. When you take part, please:
- be respectful: no harassment, discrimination, hateful or sexual content;
- respect other people’s privacy and work: don’t share what others post outside the community;
- no spam or advertising unless we’ve agreed to it;
- don’t share the course materials in the community or elsewhere;
- follow Discord’s terms and our moderators’ reasonable requests.
We may remove content that breaks these rules. If someone seriously or repeatedly breaks them, we may suspend or end their community access; where it’s fair, we’ll warn first and explain why.
9. What “lifetime access” means
“Lifetime access” means access for the life of the course on Artisanist: you can watch the lessons and download the PDFs from your account for as long as we offer the course online, whether or not your Membership is active. We can end your access earlier only if the law requires it, or if you seriously break these terms (for example by sharing your account), after telling you why.
If we ever stop offering the course, we’ll email you at least 90 days beforehand and let you download the lesson videos and PDFs to keep for your personal use.
10. Changes to the course and the service
We keep improving the course and the platform, for example by updating lessons or the way the website works. We’ll only make changes for good reasons (such as improvements, security or changes in the law), and they won’t reduce what you paid for. If a change affects your access or use negatively in a significant way, we’ll tell you in advance, and you can end the contract free of charge within 30 days.
11. If something isn’t right
The course, Membership and platform must match their description and work as you can reasonably expect. This is your legal guarantee, and it applies for as long as we supply them to you (and at least 2 years for the Base Course). If something isn’t working, tell us and we’ll fix it within a reasonable time; if we can’t, you may be entitled to a price reduction or to end the contract with a refund.
12. Our responsibility
We’re responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care. We’re not responsible for loss that wasn’t foreseeable, or for problems caused by your equipment, internet connection or third-party services we don’t control. Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility where the law doesn’t allow it, including for intent or gross negligence, or your rights as a consumer.
13. Ending the contract
You can stop at any time by cancelling your Membership; your Base Course access continues. We may suspend or end your access if you seriously break these terms (for example by sharing your account or the course materials), after telling you why. If we end it without such a reason, we’ll refund any Membership period you’ve paid for but can’t use.
14. Complaints and disputes
If something goes wrong, please write to collective@artisanist.org first; we’ll do our best to put it right.
You can also use the electronic complaints book (Livro de Reclamações Eletrónico) at www.livroreclamacoes.pt.
If we can’t resolve a dispute, you can go to a consumer arbitration centre: the Centro de Arbitragem de Conflitos de Consumo de Lisboa (www.centroarbitragemlisboa.pt) or the Centro Nacional de Informação e Arbitragem de Conflitos de Consumo (www.cniacc.pt). More information: www.consumidor.gov.pt.
These terms are governed by Portuguese law. If you live in another country, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of that country, and you can bring a claim in the courts where you live.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example when the law or our service changes. The version that applied when you bought covers your purchase. For Membership, we’ll email you about important changes at least 30 days before they apply, and you can cancel before then.
